Serevi brothers defy odds; Grateful for family love and support

For brothers Waisale Serevi and Joeli Serevi joining the military was something they never considered while growing up and even as young adults.

While every other kid they grew up with showed interest in joining the RFMF and the other disciplined forces the brothers didn’t consider it because they thought it was only meant for the physically strong and sports savvy.

But defy the odds they did when they overcame their fear and obstacles both mentally and physically to join Batch 1 of 2024 in graduating last week at the Forces Training Group in Nasinu.

Sons of Navi, the older brother of sevens maestro Waisale Serevi, the boys from Nasole said the 12 weeks of intense physical and mental training drove them to strive towards finishing well.

“For me joining the RFMF has been a blessing in disguise. It has challenged me to go over and beyond what I thought was my limited capabilities.” Waisale said.

“I am very grateful to God for opening this door of opportunity to join the Basic Recruit Course. I overcame my own personal limitations to achieve this and I am looking forward to what God is preparing for me through the RFMF.”

Joeli acknowledged their family for standing by them throughout and being there for them.

“Each and every family member that has contributed to our growing up when we were little boys, giving what you could so our family could survive, even now as young men you still continue to provide for us and we are forever grateful.”

Waisale added that without the support of family they wouldn’t have been able to get through to join the BRC.

“Family is everything. I am grateful for our family. That despite all the hardships and trials, they stood by us through it all.”

The young men begin their journey of being regular soldiers at the RFMF this week.
