Education Minister Aseri Radrodro is convening a meeting this afternoon with officials of the Fiji Secondary Schools Rugby Union after a stoning incident involving students of two schools playing in the Eastern Zone Secondary School competition last Saturday.
In a statement, Radrodro said the meeting will be discussing the ‘future participation of schools and students who are found to be perpetuating violence and unruly behavior.”
“The Ministry of Education will not hesitate to suspend schools from participating in the Deans competition if such behaviors from schools and students threaten the safety of others.”
“Provincial teams have in the past been suspended from participating in local competition because their fans or teams have been violent and unruly, and we will not hesitate to consider the same.”
Eastern Secondary Schools Rugby President Solomone Seru said decision will be made according to the values of the game under World Rugby.
“It was sad that it happened and after the meeting with the Minister of Education, the executives of the Eastern Zone will also meet this afternoon to discuss how our zone will proceed forward from here.”
The Principals of the two schools involved will also be present at the meeting with Radrodro which is to be held at the Ministry of Education headquarters in Suva.
