Fiji’s Ministry of Education is requesting all students, teachers and ancillary staff to remain at home tomorrow as schools across the country remain closed.
Schools were first closed Friday 29 January and will remain so until further notice, the ministry said in a statement a while ago.
Week three of the classes were to start tomorrow, but this has been pushed back in view of the current weather situation. The ministry will advise the public through a media announcement when schools will reopen, as many schools are currently being used as evacuation centres.
“We advise parents and guardians to closely monitor the movement of their children and keep them indoors and away from floodwaters,” Minister for Education Rosy Akbar said.
“We expect parents to be vigilant and exercise caution when moving to safer zones. The safety of our loved ones is paramount and we are concerned about the well-being of all Fijians. I urge parents to monitor the movement of their children even when at evacuation centres. Please remain safe”.
