Register with NEC for work under Aus/NZ labour programs: Cawaru

Registration for jobs in Australia and New Zealand under the existing labour mobility programs is done only via Fiji’s National Employment Centre, Permanent Secretary for Employment Osea Cawaru says.

The reminder comes in the wake of reports received from the public about individuals claiming to be working in partnership with NEC. These individuals have also been demanding fees from unsuspecting Fijians to sign up for the programs including the Seasonal Worker Program and Pacific Labour Scheme in partnership with the Australian Government as well as the New Zealand Government’s Recognised Seasonal Employer Worker Scheme (RSE).

“Any Fijian wishing to participate under the above-mentioned programs can only register and be processed through the NEC of the Employment Ministry and not by any other agency or individual,” Cawaru said. “Do not pay any money to individuals claiming to represent or working with the Ministry for employment opportunities in Australia or New Zealand as registration is free of charge.”

Cawaru is pleading with members of the public to take heed of the advisory to avoid being victimised by bogus agents with false promises.

Fijians are encouraged to visit or contact the nearest Ministry of Employment Office, District Offices, or the Police Station to report on any illegal recruitment activities taking place at their respective villages or communities.
