Education Minister Aseri Radrodro will call a meeting of the USP Council in a bid to resolve the long standing impasse between the Council and the USP Staff Union.
Prime Minister Sitiveni Rabuka posted on his social media page that he has given Radrodro the approval to convene the meeting.
“I have also authorised the Minister for Education Hon. Aseri Radrodro to call for a meeting of the USP Council to deliberate on the log of claims from the USP Staff unions.”
Rabuka said that while the strike was a legal one, it was pleasing to note that operations at the regional university have not been disrupted.
“The USP Staff union is in compliance with the provisions and procedures for a strike as set out in the Employment Relations Act 2007.”
“I have also been informed that all USP Laucala Campus’ student support services are operating as normal by staff members who are not union members as well as staff who are union members but have chosen not to go on strike.”
Rabuka is in Samoa for the Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting.
