Qiliho, Kalouniwai and Kean in lead defence roles

Brigadier General Jone Kalouniwai will head the Fiji Military over the next five years, in one of four key appointments made by the country’s President Major-General (Ret’d) Jioji Konrote.

Kalouniwai replaces Rear Admiral Viliame Naupoto whose held the role since August 2015.

The other three appointments sees Brigadier General Sitiveni Qiliho continue as Fiji Police Force Commissioner, Commander Francis Kean as Fiji Corrections Services Commissioner and Jeanette Emberson as Secretary General to the Fijian Parliament.

In a statement, the Constitutional Offices Commission said the appointments were made “after an exhaustive process of open merit recruitment.”

Qiliho and Kean are serving their second terms in office. They were first appointed to the roles in March 2016. Qiliho had held the role of police commissioner in an acting capacity since November 2015 following Ben Groenweld’s resignation. Emberson had been acting in the role since January this year in place of Viniana Namosimalua.
