Public urged to heed advice as flash floods prompt road closure

A number of roads in the West and the North have been closed as a result of flash flooding brought on by heavy rain which is expected to prevail till later today.

Closed to all traffic are the Mead Road crossing in Rakiraki, the Rakiraki access road, and Buabua Road first crossing in Lautoka. Other roads that had to be closed today because of flooding and debris washed onto the deck were the Namanumanu first cross, the Waimari crossing in Rakiraki, and the Wairiki crossing on Navakuru road in Suweni, Labasa.

The Fiji Roads Authority is urging road users to take extra care and plan their journey noting all roads and crossings that have been either closed or warnings have been issued about it.

As it stands, the Fiji Weather office has issued flash flood advisories for low lying of Lautoka, Rakiraki to Korovou along the Kings Road, the interior of the western division, the greater Nausori and Rewa Delta area, greater Suva-Nausori corridor, the Qauia catchment to Navua along the Queens Road, the whole of Rewa catchments from Waimanu, Waidina, Wainimala, and Wainibuka sub-catchment. Most parts of Vanua Levu have also been issued flood advisories including Bua, Macuata, Wailevu District, interior Vaturova-Koroalau, coastal Natewa, and western Tunuloa.
