Pryde Defers Fiji DPP Return

January 20, 2025

Fiji’s reinstated Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) Christopher Pryde has postponed his return to office until early February to respond to new allegations of misbehaviour against him.

Pryde had earlier indicated that he would resume duties at the DPP office today, following his reinstatement after a tribunal cleared him of “misbehaviour.”

However, in a follow-up statement to the media over the weekend, the DPP stated that he would need to address new allegations put forward by Acting DPP Nancy Tikoisuva. After responding to these allegations, he intends to resume duties by Monday, February 3.

“The allegations are numerous and detailed and will require time and my full attention for me to address them and provide the various original documents which I will need to locate in order to refute them,” Pryde said.” This is an extremely onerous exercise locating documents stretching back to 2012 which have already been subject to government audit and will require a detailed search. I have been given 14 days to respond.”

Pryde remains confident that any investigation will clear him of wrongdoing.
