Former Fiji Prime Minister Frank Bainimarama and suspended Commissioner of Police Sitiveni Qiliho are in court today for a hearing against a case of abuse of office for which they were acquitted last year.
Appearing for prosecution lead counsel Nancy Tikoisuva presented eight grounds for the appeal one of which was what they called the fabrication of three investigation.
The court has taken a break and will resume in an hour before Acting Chief Justice Salesi Temo where defense lawyer Devenesh Sharma is expected to present his case.
The case involving Bainimarama and Qiliho revolves around specific allegations related to their actions during an investigation into the University of the South Pacific (USP) in 2020. Bainimarama was charged with attempting to pervert the course of justice.Qiliho is charged with abuse of office. They were acquitted of the charges by Magistrates Seini Puamau.
