Professor Pal reinstated, resumes tomorrow: University of the South Pacific

Professor Pal Ahluwalia is due to resume his role as the helm of the University of the South Pacific tomorrow, six months after his deportation from Fiji.

In a statement, the university said Professor Pal returns as Vice-Chancellor and President for a three-year term, based out of its Samoa campus.

The decision to reinstate him was made by the USP Council following its meeting in June.

Professor Pal and his partner were taken to Nadi on the night of 4 February and were put on a flight out to Australia the day after. A statement by the Immigration Department on their deportation deemed them “illegal immigrants” for having breached Section 13 of the Immigration Act.
