Police quick actions avert wife-stabbing attempt

Fiji’s Police arrested a 52-year-old man of Vatuwaqa who they said had tried to stab his wife at her workplace in Suva.

The incident happened yesterday at her Flagstaff office.

Officers who were on patrol in Raiwai managed to reach the woman on-time and arrested the suspect.

“No one was injured and investigations into the matter continue,” police said.

Police also arrested an 18-year-old boy who had robbed a 34-year-old woman of her mobile phone at the Rewa Dairy Shop in front of Queen Elizabeth Barracks in Nabua, thanks to the assistance of 34-year-old Iowane Savenaca who was passing by around the same time.

“The suspect and the victim were in the same bus and when he got off at the Rewa Dairy bus stop he grabbed the mobile phone and ran away with it.”

“Mr. Savenaca who was walking on the roadside chased and caught the suspect. He handed him over to the Military Officers at the Queen Elizabeth Barracks in Nabua before Police came and took him for questioning.”
