Fiji Police are questioning a man who was using an umbrella to dodge surveillance cameras as he allegedly stole items from a supermarket in Nasinu over the weekend.
Authorities said the man was using an umbrella to hide from cameras as he moved around the shop early yesterday morning.
The supermarket manager who was viewing the incident via a live CCTV feed alerted authorities who deployed officers from Valelevu Police Station to the supermarket complex.
Chief Operations Officer ACP Abdul Khan said the officers surrounded the building whereby one officer climbed onto the roof of the adjacent building and noticed where the suspect had allegedly entered the supermarket.
ACP Khan said the suspect, upon hearing the officers outside, allegedly tried to escape through where he had gained access but was arrested by the officer who was waiting at the same point.
