Police Officers Due in Court Over Assault of Teens in 2020

Three police officers accused of assaulting two teenagers in Suva four years ago have been charged.

The incident happend on February 14. The two teenagers, aged 16 and 19, were travelling in a van that was reportedly playing loud music. They were stopped and taken to the Suva Market Post where they were questioned, and allegedly assaulted by three officers manning the post.

They will be produced at the Suva Magistrates Court on Monday facing one count each of Assault Causing Actual Bodily Harm.

In the meantime, Acting Commissioner Juki Fong Chew has sent the three on leave, with half pay, after exhausting all their leave.
