Fiji’s Ministry of Health begins the rollout of more than half a million doses of Pfizer COVID-19 vaccines today, starting in Suva at the Civic Centre.
Distribution of these vaccines to other areas has been hampered by adverse weather, the ministry says urging people living in these areas to monitor daily weather advisories and the COVID-19 vaccination program announcements regarding the availability of these vaccines from nearby centres and when it is safest to access them.
The Pfizer vaccines are administered to children aged between 12 and 14 years, for both their two doses, as well as adults aged 18 and above who would prefer Pfizer for their booster dose.
The ministry acknowledges the support of the governments of Australia and New Zealand and the partnership of UNICEF in making available 530,000 doses of Pfizer vaccine for this deployment.
