Fiji continues to be grateful to the United States of America for the services of volunteers who come through the Peace Corps mission.
And Director of Operations for the ITaukei Affairs Ministry, Mosese Nakoroi said Government is appreciative of the positive input into Fijian communities that the Peace Corps have done over the years.
Nakoroi was speaking at the welcoming ceremony of Group 99 of the Peace Corps held at the US Embassy in Suva yesterday.
“As you take your pledge to serve, the partnership between the Government of the United States and the Government of Fiji continues to demonstrate the shared commitments to the people of Fiji by your Government.”
“Your presence here today marks the testament of this commitment in creating lasting relationships that speak about values, of trust and peace.”
Nakoroi encouraged the volunteers to embrace their new communities and while they take on new challenges, to also share their experiences and learnings with their host families.
“In Fiji, when you give love, you will be shown love. When you respect others, you will gain the respect of the people. Go out there and serve and it is my hope and prayer that you will enjoy your stint in Vanua Levu and Fiji.”
19 volunteers from all the USA make up Group 99 and spent the last 10 years in Naitasiri as part of their induction into Fijian cultures and tradition as part of their preparation for the 2-year service in the Northern division.
