Party Removes Lynda Tabuya as Deputy Leader Amid Scandal

Fiji’s Minister for Women, Children and Social Protection Lynda Tabuya has been ousted as Deputy Party Leader of The People’s Alliance Party.

In a statement issued a short while ago, PA general secretary Usaia Waqatairewa said the People’s Alliance Executive Council’s decision to remove her, effective yesterday, was out of concern to protect the party’s image and reputation over “a sex and drug scandal” involving her during an official trip to the Parliament of Victoria in Melbourne in August 2023.

“The People’s Alliance Executive Council at its meeting yesterday, the Monday,4th March 2024 at its Head Quarters, Suva thoroughly discussed and considered the recommendation of the People’s Management Committee in relation to thesex and drug scandal.

“The People’s Executive Council particularly considered the severe and likely irreparable damage and disrepute that the scandal and the allegations surrounding it had brought to the party’s image and reputation.”

Waqatairewa said the Council’s decision on was relayed to Tabuya yesterday evening.
