Meeting shows unity to change government: Chaudhry

Fiji Labour Party leader and former Fijian Prime Minister Mahendra Chaudhry said the meeting he had last night with representatives of three other political parties was to explore areas of cooperation in the lead-up to Fiji’s 2022 election.

In a statement, Mr. Chaudhry said the meeting with the leaders of the People’s Alliance Party Sitiveni Rabuka, National Federation Party Professor Biman Prasad, and the General Secretary of Unity Fiji Party Ratu Mosese Bakaniceva was a demonstration of their willingness to cooperate to bring about a change of government.

“Even though we are contesting the elections as individual parties because pre-election coalitions are not permissible under the current electoral laws, there is no reason why we should not cooperate to achieve a common purpose.”

Regarding the meeting, Professor Biman said it was part of the leaders’ aspiration to talk about matters of national interest.
