OFC Professional League Kicks Off in January

Bula FC says new professional pathway will inspire players, coaches, and the next generation across Oceania

The inaugural season of the Oceania Football Confederation (OFC) Professional League will kick off on 17 January 2026 at Eden Park in Auckland, New Zealand, following confirmation from the executive committee.

The announcement of the starting date marks a major milestone for the new regional competition.

Fijian club Bula FC CEO Anushil Kumar welcomed the announcement, describing the arrival of professional football as a “game-changer” for the country, adding that the league sets a new benchmark for professionalism, development, and exposure.

Kumar believes it will “inspire our young generation to dream bigger” now that a professional pathway is available right in Oceania.

Bula FC’s coach, Stéphane Auvray, echoed these sentiments and is optimistic that the professional environment would allow players to realise their dream of becoming professional footballers, competing alongside international signings.

The impact is expected to extend directly to the national team.

Auvray, who also holds the dual role of national side coach, said that the competition will have a “huge impact” on player development.

He said that he will now have the ability to train most of the national team players daily.

The OFC Pro League will run from January to May, also featuring clubs from New Zealand, Papua New Guinea, Tahiti, Vanuatu, and the Solomon Islands, plus Australia’s South Melbourne FC.

Teams will compete in circuit rounds, playing at least 17 matches each, followed by semi-finals and a final to crown the inaugural champion.

The winner will lift the trophy and qualify for the FIFA Intercontinental Cup™, as well as represent Oceania at the FIFA Club World Cup™.

Further announcements detailing the full schedule and locations for subsequent rounds are expected soon. There are also discussions underway regarding the option of holding some rounds in Australia.
