Commissioner of Police Rusiate Tudravu has indicated that screen shots of alleged viber messages between seven officers and drug dealers is insufficient evidence to suspend them, but investigations are continuing.
Speaking to the media today in Suva, Commissioner Tudravu said the Fiji Police Force is collaborating with Australian resident Alex Forwood and Australian Police to verify the authenticity of the claims and allegations in the messages that were posted on social media.
Tudravu outlined the need for conclusive verification as the primary reason why no further steps have been taken against the officers, even though their mobile devices have been seized and forensic investigations undertaken.
“If there was enough in the mobile phones we would have acted on it already. We need more than what is in the phones.”
“We have been working closely with Ms Forwood and she has been cooperating fully.”
Commissioner Tudravu also addressed the allegations that he was offered $1million dollars in the same viber messages.
“I saw those messages and I will say that it is not true. You can check my bank balance to see for yourselves.”
Commissioner Tudravu assured the Fiji public that the Fiji Police Force will get to the bottom of the allegations and investigations.
