Netball Fiji has named its U21 and under squad to play Singapore this evening at the FMF Gym in Suva, in a match-up that is also the visitors’ final training game in the country.
Fiji Pearls extended squad member Yvonne Nalewabau who also plays for Nadi is among the 15 players named. Nalewabau is joined by Adi Lanieta Moceituba, Nina Nakula, Adi Alisi Naisulu, all of whom were part of the Fiji Secondary Schools squad. The squad includes three Nadi players in Seruwaia Radiva, Melaia Drekevuta, and Cecilia Lewatu, from Suva are Bulou Tokoniono, Elina Drikibau, Anatonia Bolakoro, Bernadeta Nauqe, and Ruth Konusi. Lautoka duo Ledua Waqa, and Lusiana Uluitoga are also part of the squad that includes Joana Vakasobutu from Nadroga.
The squad was chosen from a pool of 24 players that were identified after the Fiji Youth Championship in April. All players underwent a training program and a final selection to meet Singapore was chosen on Saturday 28 May.
“We are encouraged by the tenacity of all our 21&Under athletes and thank them for putting their hands up to represent Fiji. This Friday will be their first opportunity to play an international team and there is a level of excitement amongst our athletes and the wider netball community,” Netball Fiji CEO, Vivian Koster said.
The team is coached by Iliseva Drasuna and Lusiana Rakavono Vesikuru. The manager is John Jackson.
The match between the Fiji U21 and Singapore will start at 6pm.
