Netball Fiji coaching duo link up with Netball Queensland

Two of Fiji’s netball coaches have been selected by Netball Queensland to undertake a Coach Immersion Programme supported by the PacificAus Sports Partnership.

Iliseva Drasuna and Lusiana Vesikuru, who are co-coaches of the Fiji U21 and under selection team are currently part of Netball Fiji’s coach apprenticeship programme.

Confirming the news Netball Fiji CEO, Vivian Koster, said “Netball Fiji’s High-Performance Plan is about building a range of people and resources. Building our coaches is an important aspect of that Plan.”

She thanked the PacificAus Sports Partnership and Netball Queensland, for the opportunity for local coaches to be mentored by an elite coach and gain further exposure to a high-performance environment.

The Coach Immersion Programme with Netball Queensland involves a series of online workshops and discussion sessions. There will also be an opportunity to attend a one-week practical session in Queensland in September. The coaches will be mentored by Jenny Brazel, former coach of Fiji.

Drasuna and Vesikuru shared that they are humbled and excited at being selected for the programme.

Vesikuru said: “It is an opportunity to upskill and enhance my knowledge of coaching in a high-performance environment.”

Drasuna agreed, adding “It fits in with our long term goals of being elite coaches ourselves.”

Both agreed too that it will be another way that they can give back to their communities and help develop the sport in the country.

Vesikuru added “I hope to motivate other aspiring coaches and share insights from my experience.”

Drasuna and Vesikuru will be on the sideline when the Fiji 21 and under selection side take on Singapore this Friday, 3 June at the FMF Gym.
