Another 52 boxes of medical supplies were donated by the Chinese government in efforts to combat the coronavirus pandemic.

The FJD $270,000 worth of medical supplies were handed over by Ambassador of China to Fiji Qian Bo to the Minister of Health Dr Ifereimi Waqainabete earlier today.

The batch of medical supplies includes 100 pieces of infrared  thermometers, 500 pairs of medical isolation shoe covers, 500 pairs of disposable sterilised  rubber surgical gloves,1000 pieces of medical disposable protective clothing, 1000 medical protective goggles and 1000 protective face masks for medical use.

Ambassador Bo commended the efforts of the health workers and the Fijian government as Fiji battles with the remaining four positive cases of COVID-19.

“I fully trust that all those medical supplies will serve critical roles in protecting frontier medical staff and in identifying potential cases, so as to contribute to the medical development in fighting the pandemic,” Ambassador Bo said.

Despite the recoveries of COVID-19 patients Minister Waqainabete urged Fijians not to be complacent but rather keep adhering to the COVID-19 precautionary measures.

“We have to understand that physical distancing still remains in place and is here to stay as the new norm. We also have to understand its been a whole government effort of investment in the fight against COVID-19 with everyone participating,” Dr Waqainabete said.

Apart from the COVID -19 supplementary budget, Fiji has been receiving donations from local organisations, foreign countries and international agencies like the World Health Organisations.
