Man’s body found floating in Yasawa waters, Suva Meth find lands 2 in court

Two people will appear before a magistrates court in Suva this morning each charged with one count of unlawful possession of illicit drugs, a day after the body of a man in his late 50s was found floating in the Yasawa waters, Fiji Police said in their update this morning.

Regarding the Suva drug-find case, police said the two, a 40-year-old man and a 24-year-old woman were searched by a team of officers along Cumming Street on Wednesday afternoon and were found with plastics containing methamphetamine and marijuana.

In the Yasawas, police said the 59-year-old victim of Waya village had left with a 16-year-old boy, from the same village to collect firewood yesterday morning.

“A few hours later a farmer from Namara, Vuda saw the 16-year old clinging to the body of the [man] in waters near Naboro village in Waya. Attempts made to revive him proved futile.”

He was taken to the Lautoka Hospital where he was pronounced dead.
