A man in his 60s died after being hit by a bus while crossing near the Valelevu roundabout in Nasinu last night.
Police say the victim was attempting to cross Yasiyasi Road when he was struck by a bus driven by a man in his 50s.
The victim was taken to the Valelevu Health Centre, where efforts to revive him proved futile.
Director of Traffic Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Mitieli Divuana said there has been an increase in serious road accidents in recent days, resulting in severe injuries and fatalities.
According to police data, eight road fatalities have been recorded in Fiji so far this year. The leading causes include speeding (four cases), careless driving (two cases), pedestrian error (one case), and improper overtaking (one case).
The current road death toll of eight is a decrease from 17 recorded during the same period last year.
