Mai TV is Wearing Fiji’s official television partner

Mai TV Fiji has signed up as the official television partner for Wearing Fiji’s forthcoming show scheduled for May at the Grand Old Lady in Suva.

The Fijian-owned television station signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) in Suva today, underlining their commitment to the fashion house as well as the country’s fashion industry.

In its second year running, Wearing Fiji provides a platform for aspiring designers to not only enhance their fashion-sense under a mentoring program guided by established designers but also showcase their talents and find their footing in the business.

As official media partners, Mai TV will produce a 90-minute delayed spectacle as well as promo the event leading up to the show.

The May show is a culmination of a mentoring programme in which 14 student designers were put through a fashion curriculum, spread over three months, under the guidance of seven established designers in Hupfield Hoerder, Temesia Tuicaumia, Ashley Daunibau, Andrew Powell, Natalia Larsen, Samson Lee and Robert Verebasaga.

MaiTV Director Stanley Simpson said: “Wearing Fiji was a dynamic, creative show that provided a great platform for local fashion talents.

Wearing Fiji’s Natalia Larsen said that Wearing Fiji was more than just a fashion show as it also created employment not only for seamstress’ and others who work behind the scenes in the fashion industry but also tourism workers and retail staff amidst the coronavirus pandemic.

The event will be held at Brittania Room at the GPH in Suva on Saturday 1 May.
