Acting Permanent Secretary for Health Dr Jemesa Tudravu revealed the stats while opening the Raiwaqa Health Expo currently underway at the Garden City complex in Raiwai.
“Unfortunately there was also one death from leptospirosis recorded in the same period.” Dr Tudravu said.
Raiwaqa Health Centre caters for approximately 35,000 people from the nearby communities that include Laucala, Raiwaqa and Railway medical zones which includes residents of Veiquwawa, Jittu Estate and Wailea settlements.
“Diabetes and hypertension remain the main health issue in the Raiwaqa medical area and we can work together to address this.”
The expo included stations from organisations such as Empower Pacific, Field Ready, Suva City Council and Rheumatic Heart Disease Hub amongst others who are giving free assessment checks, health checks and counselling.
The expo ends tomorrow.
