Labasa Man With Suitcase of Marijuana Due in Court As Police Encourage More Public Tips

A 49-year-old man arrested in Labasa after being found in possession of a suitcase filled with dried leaves has been charged and will appear in court today.

The leaves were later confirmed to be cannabis sativa, and as a result, he has been charged with Unlawful Possession of Illicit Drugs.

He is scheduled to appear at the Labasa Magistrates Court.

The arrest came about because concerned members of the public alerted the Fiji Police, and they are encouraging more people to provide such information, as it led to the successful arrest of two men in Lautoka the previous week.

The two men from Vatuwaqa were allegedly caught with cocaine and methamphetamine during a raid at a Lautoka Motel where they were staying on July 25. They have since been produced in court and granted bail.
