Karan secures astounding win; qualifies for mini Pacific Games in Palau

Yeshnil Karan, Fiji’s long-distance champion has qualified for the Pacific Mini Games after an outstanding performance at the 2025 Sally Pearson Shield in Brisbane over the weekend.

Karan clocked a time of 14:40.08s in the men’s 5000m run.

Athletics Fiji stalwart Atma Maharaj said the time Karan clocked is the fastest posted by a Fijian athlete.

“Yeshnil ran a smart and confident race, crossing the line in an impressive 14:40.08 the, third fastest, 5,000m time ever recorded by a Fijian athlete, only ten seconds behind his own National Records and performances.”

The Tavua runner won gold medals  in the 10,000 and 5,000 metres, and the 3,000 metres steeple chase at the Pacific Games held in the Solomon Islands in 2023.

This year the Pacific Mini Games will be held from June 29 to July 9th in Palau.
