Three Fijian UN peacekeepers who were arrested by Israel on suspicion of drug smuggling have been released after it was determined that the substance they were carrying was not drugs, according to media reports.
The peacekeepers, serving in the Fiji Battalion with the United Nations Disengagement Observer Force in the Golan Heights, were detained on June 25 at Israel’s border with Jordan. They were found to be carrying perfume-making kits that included bottles with liquid substances, which had initially raised suspicions of liquid cocaine.
However, further investigation proved that the substance was not drugs, leading to their release, Times of Israel reported.
