Cricket continues to gather interest amongst school children and this has been welcomed by those who hold the sport close to heart.
Chairman of Cricket Fiji Ratu Meli Saubulinayau applauded the work already done in schools.
“We are pleased with how the sport is being played in the schools. More interest continues to be shown and that’s what we will work with.”
Several schools have gathered in Suva for the U19 Secondary Schools competition from a team will be chosen to represent Fiji at the U19 World Cup in Japan next year.
“The skills showcased here have been exceptional and at the end of the competition there will be a team chosen to prepare for the World Cup.”
Schools gathered in Suva include teams from the Lau islands including Moce Secondary School, Cicia High School, Rt Finau College from Lakeba, John Wesley College, Suva Grammar School, Ba Provincial Freebird Institute and a Cricket Fiji Invitational side.
The games which are being held at Albert Park in Suva features CF Invitational against Moce Secondary School and Nabua Secondary School against Cicia High School.
In the second round of games, John Wesley College go to bat against Ba Provincial Freebird Institute while on ground 2, Ratu Finau College play Suva Grammar School.
