The World’s most popular Rugby 7s tournament, the Cathay Pacific/HSBC Hong Kong Sevens scheduled for April 3-5 is likely postponed to October due to the ongoing Coronavirus outbreak.
In a report dated February 12, the South China Morning Ports reports an official announcement might be made today in Ireland, the headquarters of World Rugby.
“This year’s tournament, the 45th edition, was scheduled to take place at Hong Kong Stadium from April 3-5,” the SCMP reports.
“Organisers had earlier said this year’s event was “all systems go” despite the battle against the virus, but have had to shelve the World Rugby Sevens World Series stop for six months.”
The 45th edition was scheduled to be another sell out.
The HK7s, widely regarded as the home of rugby 7s and Fiji’s favourite field, attracts 40,000 fans daily at the So Kon Po Stadium in the city’s Happy Valley.
