The High Court has scheduled a three-day hearing in March to consider applications to stop the criminal proceedings against Deputy Prime Minister Manoa Kamikamica and Finance Minister Professor Biman Prasad.
Justice Siainiu Fa’alogo Bull has set the hearings for March 18 to 20. The ministers are seeking a permanent stay of their cases, based on a challenge to the appointment of the Acting FICAC Commissioner, Lavi Rokoika.
The matters involve separate charges brought by the Fiji Independent Commission Against Corruption (FICAC).
Kamikamica faces charges of perjury and giving false information. It is alleged he made false statements under oath between December 2024 and March 2025 regarding the appointment of a FICAC Commissioner.
Professor Biman Prasad is charged with failing to comply with statutory disclosure requirements. The allegation relates to a 2015 declaration where he reportedly omitted a company directorship.
Professor Prasad was present for the court mention, while Mr. Kamikamica was excused due to illness.
FICAC was represented by Senior Counsel Joseph Work and Josann Pene. The case is set to return to court for a mention on February 5.
