Fiji Braces for Heavy Rain, Flash Floods, and Strong Winds

January 24, 2024

A heavy rain warning is in force for Fiji as an active trough of low pressure approaches, bringing the risk of flash flooding.

The Fiji Weather office has also issued flash flood warnings in the central, eastern and western divisions and an alert issued for the Northern division.

Strong winds are expected in various areas, with potential damage to structures and navigation disruptions.

The weather system is forecasted to linger until early Friday, causing occasional heavy rain and thunderstorms.

Saturated ground increases the risk of floods and landslides. Conditions are anticipated to improve on Friday, but isolated heavy falls may persist.
