Former Melbourne Storm CEO appointed as Fijian Drua boss

Former Melbourne Storm and Western Force Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Mark Evans has been appointed to lead the Fijian Drua campaign over the next three years, starting on October 17.

Evans has been appointed as the new CEO and will replace Brian Thorburn who has returned to the Fiji Rugby Union Office.

FRU CEO Commodore Humphrey Tawake says Evans brings with him 30 years of experience in the role after having served with many major rugby franchises around the world.

Tawake says Evans will guide the Drua to continue what they have shown in their maiden year in Super Rugby.

The Fiji Rugby Union has stated that a number of strong candidates applied for the job but Evans was outstanding.

Former CEO Brian Thorburn says Evans brings a wealth of experience and he has a strong relationship with rugby communities around the world.

Meanwhile, Evans says he is excited about the job and it was something he cannot turn down.

With the Drua’s exceptional performance in their first Super Rugby season, Evans says he is ready to take on the significant responsibility.
