Flagstaff home vacated as youths retaliate

Police officers dispersed a band of youths, foiling an alleged plan to attack occupants of a house of interest in Flagstaff who have since been asked to relocate for their own safety.

The latest development is believed to be in retaliation to attacks against youths from Raiwai which are believed to have been instigated by occupants of the said house. The most recent incident reportedly happened over the weekend during which two Raiwai youths were abducted and attacked on Sunday morning.

Four men were arrested in relation to the attack, following which Fiji Police set up an incident management team to investigate the occupants of the Flagstaff house. However, the youths who witnesses said walked towards Rewa Street from the direction of Nailuva Road off Raiwai, it appears decided to take matters into their own hands this evening.

Fiji Police’s IMT unit was tipped off about the planned attack and deployed 50 officers to the Flagstaff residence.

Police Commissioner Brigadier-General Sitiveni Qiliho said their IMT unit would remain operational. In addition, they were also reaching out to the Lomaiviti Rugby Club for assistance.

“Efforts are also underway to get the President of the Lomaiviti Rugby Club to assist …in quelling the situation before another incident or attack occurs.”
