Fiji’s acting Supervisor of Elections and acting Registrar of Political Parties Ana Mataiciwa confirms receiving two complaints against the country’s opposition party FijiFirst relating to the non-declaration of assets in their audited accounts that is available on the Fijian Elections Office website.
In accordance with internal procedures, Mataiciwa said she has reached out to FijiFirst to request their response.
“Their response will determine our next course of action,” Mataiciwa said pointing out that this may involve referring the complaints to the Fiji Independent Commission Against Corruption (FICAC).
As the acting Registrar, Mataiciwa said that her responsibility primarily involves verifying whether the accounts have been audited by a certified accountant before they are uploaded to the FEO (Fijian Elections Office) website.
“After that, if anyone inspects the accounts and has complaints, then they can lodge it to us, so that has happened,” Mataiciwa said.
