The Fijiana stamped the biggest upset on day two of the Oceania 7s tournament with a 19-12 win over the hosts and Olympic champions Australia last night.
This is the third time in the history of the game, that a Fijiana outfit has defeated the Aussies.
Despite try-saving tackles by the Australians, the Fijiana scored twice to lead 12-0.
The Aussies rallied back with a try before the Fijiana responded with another immediately from the kick-off. The hosts scored again in the dying minutes of the game to close in on Fiji, but it was too late. This was their second match-up at the tournament. Australia had defeated the Fijiana 31-15 in their first meeting.
The other times that the Fijiana have won over Australia was at the Pacific Games. Earlier in the day, the Fijiana defeated Oceania Women 21-12.
The Oceania tournament finishes today with the Fijiana scheduled to play New Zealand at 3.14 pm before they take on Oceania at 8.33 pm. The Fiji Men’s 7s team will ope proceedings today against the Oceania Men’s at 2.30 pm. (Fixtures shown below are in Aus Time)
