Apart from a niggling ankle worry with veteran Fijiana 7s star, Viniana Riwai, the team is ready to take on France, Spain and Brazil at the Perth 7s which begins tomorrow, Friday 26th.
Speaking to the media via Zoom, coach Saiasi Fuli said the team was in high spirits and ready to take on the challenge at Perth.
“The girls are ready, they’ve had a good prep even though we had to rush straight to Perth after the Coral Coast 7s in the weekend.”
On whether he as head coach would be attending local tournaments, upon their return to scout for more talent, Fuli said while they had a good number of players in the main and extended squad, they had plans in place to make sure the best were chosen for the rest of the series including the Olympics.
“For example, we have Jerry Tuwai who is currently working with the girls who recovering from injuries back home, getting them ready for international tournaments and he is also working others in identifying talents across Fiji.”
“We have 13 girls here in Perth and there are 16 more in the extended squad and we will continue to work to make sure that everyone has the opportunity to show case their skills.” Fuli said.
Fuli said that they have had good support so far from the Fijian community in Perth.
“The girls got to meet the Fijian community who have assured them of their support. With the Fijian Drua games beginning soon, the community here is also preparing to support our teams when they come across.”
Pacific Games rep Elenoa Adinaimata makes her debut on the World 7s series and Verenaisi Bari makes a return to the world scene after an ACL injury last year.
Fiji plays Brazil at 7pm (Fiji Time) tomorrow.
