Fijiana 7s grouped in tough pool in Toulouse

The Fijiana 7s team has been pitted against 2022 HSBC World Rugby 7s series champions and Canada 7s tournament champions Australia in what appears to be the toughest pool at the Toulouse Sevens tournament later this month.

Australia made a double sweep at the second last tournament on the 2022 women’s 7s series calendar in Canada over the weekend, winning the series title, before edging Tokyo Olympic champs New Zealand 21-17 in the Langford Sevens Cup final.

In pool A, the Fijiana book a rematch with the USA, following their 19-20 loss to the side in their pool match at the Langford tourney. The Fijiana also have the South Africans in the same pool, who are making their first appearance in the competition in two years. The South Africans last played in Cape Town in 2020.

Pool B has New Zealand, Canada, Spain and Scotland whilst pool C has Ireland, France, England and Brazil.

The Toulouse tournament is scheduled for 20-22 May.

The Fijiana finished the Langford tournament in seventh place.
