Fijian Student Drowns in Kansas River

A 21-year-old Fijian student studying in the United States has drowned in the Neosho River in Kansas.

The Neosho County Sheriff’s Office reported that the incident occurred Saturday evening near Detners Dam.

The student who was studying at Neosho County Community College was swimming with friends when he jumped off the dam and was swept away by the strong current. Despite rescue efforts, he drowned, and emergency responders later recovered his body. An autopsy has been scheduled to confirm the cause of death.

Authorities are withholding the student’s name pending notification of his family in Fiji.
