The Swire Shipping Fijian Drua are looking forward to their first match against the Auckland Blues side in the first round of the Super Rugby Pacific competition this weekend in Whangarei.
Coach Mick Byrnes said that after looking at their performance in the 2 pre-season games, the boys are ready and raring to go.
“The mood in the team is great. They came back today from training and had a bit of a sing-along and just wind down because we had a hard go at training today.”
Byrnes also confirmed that speedster Taniela Rakuro and fullback Ilaisa Droasese were out for a few games after being injured in the two games but that this is not a worry as they had ample players in the squad including the development and academy squads.
“Ilaisa has injured his knee and is out for at least two games and the same for Taniela but we have some players in the academy squad that are coming up too who can fill in for now,” Byrnes said.
On whether some of his players are possible inclusions into the Fiji 7s Olympics team, Byrnes said discussions were ongoing.
“Nothing has been confirmed, we will continue to have the discussion with them and see how best we can accommodate this.”
