Fiji Suffers First Loss in OFC Futsal Nations Cup, Regroup for Match-up Against Host Team

August 21, 2024

Fiji could not contain a spirited New Zealand outfit, losing 1-9 in their first loss at the OFC Futsal Women’s Nations Cup in Honiara.

The national side went into the match day 3 with two wins from two and had their chances but were no match for New Zealand who were quick off the mark, slotting in their first goal in the third minute. They were unfortunate to concede an own goal in the 6th minute, providing the Kiwis some breather and push to slot in three more goals to go into the break leading 5-0.

Fiji improved early in the second half and was rewarded for their hard work. Koleta Likuculacula, one of the side’s standouts, scored Fiji’s lone goal in the 27th minute. The New Zealanders were undeterred, scoring four more to seal the win.

Fiji are on a bye and will return to the pitch Friday for their final round-robin game against the host team.
