The Fiji Rugby Union has postponed all rugby events including the first leg of the Fun Flavor Super 7s Series and the Veiyasana Provider 7s tournament, both planned for this week, in view of rising COVID-19 cases in the country.
The confirmation comes after FRU met with the Ministry of Youth and Sports and the Fiji National Sports Commission and based on the guidance from the Ministry of Health and Medical Services.
FRU Chief Executive John O’Connor said all rugby events will be stood down until COVID-19 Return to Play protocols are reviewed.
Regarding the postponed tournaments, he also said: “We will await new guidelines from the Ministry of Health & Medical Services and Ministry of Youth and Sports before we confirm new tournament dates.”
In the meantime, the FRU says it will still release the participation grant to all teams to assist with the preparation.
In view of these latest developments, the Fiji Airways Fijian 7s and the Fiji Airways Fijiana 7s will soon move into their respective bubbles as they prepare to depart for the Spain 7s next week.
