Fiji Police Crack Down on Drug Trafficking with K9 Units During Holidays

August 22, 2024

The Fiji Police Force is stepping up its efforts to combat drug trafficking as more people travel for school holidays, festivals, and meetings.

To tackle the problem, Assistant Commissioner of Police Operations (ACP) Livai Driu said police are using K9 units to search inter-island vessels and are also raiding farms suspected of growing illegal drugs. Recent operations have led to significant drug discoveries in Kadavu and several arrests for possession of illegal substances.

With the increased travel during the holidays, the police are urging everyone to stay alert and report anything unusual, as they work to keep communities safe from the harm of illegal drugs.

Driu also encouraged the public to help by reporting any suspicious activities through the police hotline at 917 or Crime Stoppers at 919.
