Fiji Pearls Fall to Malawi in PacAus Netball Series Opener

The Fiji Pearls, Fiji’s national netball team, lost 47-54 to Malawi on day one of PacAus Netball Series last night at the Gold Coast Leisure Centre.

Malawi set the pace early on, winning the first quarter 14-12. They continued to build their advantage in the second quarter, outscoring Fiji 13-8, which resulted in a halftime score of 27-20 in Malawi’s favor. Malawi extended the lead in the third quarter, winning 16-11. Despite a spirited fightback from Fiji in the final quarter, where they won 16-11, it was not enough to close the gap.

The Fiji Pearls will be looking to regroup and learn from their first match as they prepare to face Samoa in their second match of the series at 9.30pm tonight (Fiji Time). Samoa had won their opening game against Papua New Guinea 66-48.

Other matches on the opening night of the PacAus Netball Series saw Zambia defeat Kenya with a close score of 49-45, while Tonga, the favorites of the competition, showed their dominance with a resounding 85-40 win over Singapore.

The series culminates with the finals scheduled for Saturday.
