Fiji NDRMO Cautions Public on Continuous Rainy Weather

December 2, 2024

With the continuous rain the past few weeks leading into today, soil and ground conditions are excepted to be immensely saturated making it susceptible to disaster.

And the Fiji National Disaster Risk Management Office has cautioned people to be extra vigilant.

“With continuous rain recorded in the last couple of days and with already saturated soil, there are possible risks of landslides occurring in some areas. This poses a danger to lives, properties and infrastructure.”

“Members of the public are advised to avoid necessary travel to high-risk areas, especially near the steep slopes or landslide prone zones, and continue to monitor weather updates and advisories issued by the relevant authorities.”

People are also asked to contact authorities if any signs of disaster are sighted.

“The NDRMO also encourages the public to report any signs of ground movement, such as cracks in the soil or unusual water flow patterns, to authorities immediately to ensure public safety.”
