Fiji National University’s (FNU) College of Agriculture, Fisheries and Forestry (CAFF) met with industry stakeholders this week to revise the college’s curriculum according to current sector needs, ensuring that graduates are job-ready.

College Dean Dr. Kaliova Ravuiwasa led the meetings stressing the importance of ensuring educational programs stay relevant.

“These meetings provide a platform for open dialogue and ensure that our programmes remain relevant and produce graduates who are well-prepared for the workforce,” Dr Ravuiwasa said.

Dr Andrew Tukana, Permanent Secretary for the Ministry of Agriculture and Waterways, welcomed the initiative, stating it would help graduates gain the necessary skills for their careers.

“This is a positive step forward. By working together, FNU and industry stakeholders can ensure that graduates possess the necessary skills and knowledge to contribute effectively to the growth of the agricultural sector,” said Dr Tukana.

The two-day meetings involved representatives from various ministries and sectors, including the Ministry of Forestry and Fisheries and the Biosecurity Authority of Fiji. They provided insights on the skills required in today’s job market, which CAFF plans to incorporate into its courses.

Joel Evangelista from Rooster Poultry highlighted the importance of the feedback.

“These meetings provide an opportunity to address the challenges faced by graduates and stakeholders alike. We believe that CAFF is producing capable graduates, and this initiative will further strengthen their preparedness for the industry.”
