Fiji Military Holds Reconciliation Session with Former CRW Members

The Republic of Fiji Military Forces (RFMF) hosted a reconciliation session this week with former members of its disbanded Counter Revolutionary Warfare (CRW) unit.

Led by RFMF Commander Major General Ro Jone Kalouniwai, the event took place at the Force Training Group’s Duavata Hall in Nasinu.

An RFMF spokesperson described the gathering as an opportunity for open dialogue, encouraging both current and former military personnel to engage in discussions about past grievances, particularly those stemming from the events of 2000.

“While the discussions centered on the tumultuous events of 2000, the focus extended beyond that pivotal moment,” the spokesperson said. “Attendees were encouraged to seek forgiveness from anyone they felt had been wronged, addressing lingering grievances that had persisted for nearly a quarter of a century. This open exchange provided a long-overdue opportunity for healing and reflection.”

Members of the RFMF also presented a ‘matanigasau’ to the former CRW members to seek forgiveness and welcome them back into the RFMF family.

“The day marked an emotional step toward restoration of the camaraderie and brotherhood that once defined the RFMF prior to the challenges faced in 2000. The session represented a significant move towards healing, unity, and the restoration of relationships within the military community, reinforcing the values of empathy and forgiveness that are crucial for any organisation.”

According to the spokesperson the event is part of the RFMF’s ongoing Reconciliation and Restoration Program which began earlier this year.
