Fiji men’s 7s captain Jerry Tuwai has issued a heart felt apology to the nation for ‘bringing home silver instead of the gold’ at the Paris Olympics.
“We know the nation was waiting for us to come with the gold, so on behalf of our management and the boys I apologise to everyone in Fiji for bringing back a different colored medal.”
Speaking at the welcome ceremony organized by the Fiji government at Tanoa International Hotel on Sunday, Tuwai said the boys had done all they could in the final against France and he was proud of their effort.
“We are forever grateful for everyone in Fiji’s support. Vinaka valevu to you all for the prayers, the well wishes, the support and for still encouraging us after we lost in the final. It meant a lot to us.”
“I also want to acknowledge our families for the support they have been for us. For standing in the gap and filling in for us which enables us to do our duty for our country.”
The team have since dispersed after the ceremony in Nadi.
“Now we get to have some quality time with families and rest our bodies also.”
