Fiji Fisheries Minister and Official Charged in Beche-de-mer Trade Scandal

Fiji’s Minister for Fisheries and Forests Kalaveti Ravu and Regional Manager North Tekata Toaisi appeared in the Sigatoka Magistrates Court, charged by the Fiji Independent Commission Against Corruption (FICAC) with Abuse of Office and Aiding and Abetting Abuse of Office, respectively.

The charges stem from alleged interference in an investigation into illegal Beche-de-mer trade between July 25 and August 31, 2023.

Both have been granted bail, with Ravu receiving a $1,000 cash bail and Toaisi a non-cash bail.

Strict bail conditions, including surrendering travel documents and regular police reporting, were imposed. The case is adjourned to July 29.
